12th Fail Box Office Collections After 14 Days

Despite a humble start, the film “12th Fail,” helmed by director Vidhu Vinod Chopra and featuring Vikrant Massey, witnessed a remarkable surge in its second week, surpassing its initial box office figures. Adapted from Anurag Pathak’s eponymous novel, the movie has resonated with audiences, attaining noteworthy success in the past fortnight, despite a sluggish commencement where it garnered only Rs 1.11 crore on its opening day.

The film proceeded to amass Rs 13.04 crore in the inaugural week, and contrary to expectations of a decline in the second week, it sustained a consistent momentum, even surpassing the earnings of the initial week. Notably, it earned Rs 1.76 crore on Friday, Rs 3.42 crore on Saturday, and Rs 3.33 crore on Sunday, culminating in a second-weekend total of Rs 8.51 crore. Over the ensuing four days, it maintained a steady collection, accumulating Rs 1.32 crore, Rs 1.41 crore, Rs 1.46 crore on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday’s early estimates suggest an additional Rs 1.45 crore, concluding the second week with a total of Rs 14.15 crore. The film’s cumulative collection presently stands at Rs 27.19 crore.

For those unacquainted with the narrative, the storyline revolves around the resilient protagonist, Manoj, portrayed by Massey, confronting challenges in his 12th-grade board exams but opting for resilience over despondency. He embarks on a new academic pursuit, aspiring for success in the demanding UPSC examination.

In discussing this ambitious venture, director Vidhu Vinod Chopra conveyed to ETimes, “I embarked on this film at the age of 66 and am now 71. Consider this: which producer or filmmaker would willingly invest 4.5 years of their life in creating ’12th Fail’ with Vikrant Massey? Who wouldn’t prefer creating a ‘Munnabhai 3’ or a sequel to ‘3 Idiots’? This film holds significant relevance in today’s context. Never before have I urged people to watch my film. It’s not about monetary gains. I have yet to finalize a deal with any OTT platform for its distribution. It’s just me and my film. Since it’s my money, I am not answerable to anyone. I’m affirming that I am living my life through cinema. Cinema and my life are synonymous; there’s no contradiction.”
