In the mystical village of Shilaspura, Rajasthan, the Disney+ Hotstar series, “Dahan: Raakan Ka Rahasya,” weaves a tale of ancient rivalry, dark magic, and a supernatural curse. While the show doesn’t provide all the answers, it delivers a powerful message about the dual nature of superstition and science, both intended to alleviate human fears but often twisted to instill fear.

The Mythology
The narrative unfolds in the backdrop of a historical conflict in Shilaspura. A dying king’s sons, the Karapali, battle for the throne against the Nikasiya. Despite the Karapali’s smaller army, they possess a secret weapon – Ridhiyakan, the son of Vayusen and the demon Haadika. Ridhiyakan’s sorcery and ability to control minds turn the tide in the war, but his lack of empathy leads the Karapali to view him as malevolent. After winning the battle, they behead Ridhiyakan to prevent him from claiming the throne. This act sets off a chain of events, with Ridhiyakan’s head preserved in a rock, worshipped by generations to prevent catastrophe.
The Story
IAS officer Avani Raut is sent to Shilaspura following allegations of bribery and her husband’s suicide. Tasked with overseeing mining operations by Mangon Corporation, Avani disregards warnings from Swaroop, the village head, about the mystical Shilasthal rock. The detonation of mines leads to an earthquake, cracking the Shilasthal rock and setting off a series of eerie events. An accident in the mines turns a worker, Mangal, into a Raakan, seeking human sacrifices. As the mystery unravels, it is revealed that Avani is possessed by Haadika, seeking vengeance for Ridhiyakan’s death. With Swaroop’s help, Avani releases herself from Haadika’s control, leading to a resolution involving rituals, Raakan suppression, and sealing off the mines.
‘Dahan Raakan Ka Rahasya’ Ending Explained
Avani’s friend Sandeep identifies a new virus causing the Raakan phenomenon, affecting the amygdala and triggering violence. The pathogen, released from the Shilasthal rock, deoxygenates blood rapidly, resulting in black blood. The show cleverly intertwines science and superstition, leaving viewers to ponder whether it’s Ridhiyakan’s illusion or a newly discovered pathogen.

The series hints at a repeated phenomenon, occurring when individuals with cuts enter the caves. The pathogen’s effects can be contained by burning herbs in the cave, explaining why Raakans become dormant during certain rituals. The immunity of Avani and Sandeep is attributed to their biological resistance or, in a more superstitious vein, being outsiders not subject to the village curse. The killing of Bhawani Bhaisa is unveiled as a plot by Renu, his wife, to end the torment inflicted on women in the name of soul removal rituals.
Possibilities of Season 2
As Season 1 concludes, major characters meet their demise, leaving Avani and her son Anay as the surviving protagonists. The potential for a Season 2 lies in the aftermath of their departure from Shilaspura, hinting at the mending of Avani’s relationship with Anay and a budding romance between Anay and Rani. Swaroop’s demise and the absence of cliffhangers leave the door open for future developments, with the show’s continuation dependent on official announcements.
In a captivating blend of mythology, mystery, and the clash between tradition and modernity, “Dahan: Raakan Ka Rahasya” Season 1 offers a thrilling journey, leaving viewers eager for more revelations and resolutions in potential future seasons.
