The much-anticipated release of “Tiger 3” left many scratching their heads as the film, despite its star-studded cast and massive budget, failed to live up to expectations at the box office. With a net domestic collection of approximately INR 278 crores as of November 28, 2023, the writing seemed to be on the wall for the Salman-Katrina-Emraan starrer. Here’s a deep dive into why “Tiger 3” missed the mark and what lessons can be learned from its shortcomings.

Release Date Fiasco
One of the glaring missteps of “Tiger 3” was its choice of release date. Unlike its predecessors, which primarily targeted the Eid holiday season, “Tiger 3” opted for a Diwali release in 2023. This departure from tradition raised eyebrows among Bollywood enthusiasts, and the decision proved to be a costly one.
Releasing a big-budget film on a Sunday, particularly during a major festival like Diwali, was a risky move that didn’t pay off. While the studio may have relied heavily on Salman Khan’s star power to draw audiences, they overlooked the fact that Diwali is a time for families to come together and celebrate, rather than heading to the theaters. The result? A lackluster opening weekend with earnings of just INR 44 crores, a far cry from what was expected of a Salman Khan film.
Lost Opportunities
Had “Tiger 3” been released on a more conventional Friday, it could have potentially surpassed the collections of its predecessor, “Tiger Zinda Hai.” By forfeiting two extra days of revenue by releasing on a Sunday, the film missed out on the opportunity to capitalize on the extended weekend, including additional holidays like Bhai Duj and Govardhan Pooja.
Comparisons with previous Diwali releases further underscored the folly of this decision. Films like “Adipurush,” “Pathaan,” and “Jawan” enjoyed successful openings without the burden of a Sunday release, highlighting the missed potential of “Tiger 3.”

Performance Woes
Beyond the release date debacle, “Tiger 3” also suffered from lackluster performances, particularly from its lead actors. Salman Khan’s portrayal of the titular character lacked the intensity and emotional depth needed to resonate with audiences. Similarly, Katrina Kaif’s performance, while impressive in action sequences, fell short in conveying the required range of emotions. Emraan Hashmi’s character, though promising, was hindered by poor characterization, further dampening the film’s impact.
Technical Oversights
In addition to performance issues, “Tiger 3” also suffered from technical oversights that detracted from its overall quality. The lack of attention to detail, particularly in maintaining continuity between flashbacks and present-day scenes, was a glaring flaw. Salman Khan’s unchanged appearance over the years, despite the film spanning multiple timelines, highlighted a lack of care in the film’s production.
Romantic Disconnect
Even the typically sizzling chemistry between Salman and Katrina failed to ignite in “Tiger 3.” The lackluster portrayal of their romance, particularly evident in the poorly executed song sequences, further dampened the film’s appeal.
