Shankar Nagarakatte, also known as Shankar Nag, was an Indian theatre and cinema actor, screenwriter, director, activist, philanthropist, and thinker who was best recognized for his work in action, family, comedy, and art films. He was born on November 4, 1954, and passed away on September 30, 1990.
FAMILY:
On Tuesday, 9 November 1954, in Mallapur, Honnavar, Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, Shankar Nag was born as the third child of Sadananda Nagarakatte (Father) and Anandi Nagarakatte (Mother). He is from a Saraswat Brahmin family that speaks Konkani and is based close to Shirali in Bhatkal. In addition to his native Konkani, Shankar Nag was proficient in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, and English. He happens to be the younger sibling of Anant Nag, a veteran Kannada actor. His older sister is named Shyamala.
WIFE/ CHILDREN:
Shankar encountered his future wife on the sets where Arundathi Nag, an actress, worked.
Shankar Nag and Arundhati relocated to Bangalore after getting married, settling into a rural home outside of the city. Kavya Nag is the daughter of Shankar Nag and Arundhati.
FILM CAREER:
Shankara Nag made his film debut in 1978 with the action film Ondanondu Kaladalli, which was helmed by Girish Karnad and starred Sundar Raj, Akshatha Rao, and Sundar Krishna Urs.
Shankar Nag and Nachiket Patwardhan co-wrote the screenplay for the Marathi film 22 June 1897, which won a national award.
His first big hit was Seetha Ramu, followed by the well-received heist thriller Minchina Ota, which helped Anant and Shankar become well-known. His well-known films include Moogana Sedu, Minchina Ota, Janma Janmada Anubandha, Auto Raja—the tale of an auto driver who falls in love with a wealthy woman—Muniyana Madari, Geetha, Nodi Swamy Navirodu Heege, Hosa Theerpu, Gedda Maga, Makkaliralavva Manethumba are his most prominent films.
Shankar Nag wrote and directed the action thriller Minchina Ota, Ondu Muttina Kathe, and the family comedy Nodi Swamy Navirodu Heege, which starred Ramesh Bhat and Shankar’s spouse Arundhati.
