“Krishna Kumar Kunnath” (commonly known as K.K. or Kay Kay) was an Indian playback singer. He was a popular vocalist in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu cinema. Krishna Kumar, born in Thrissur, Kerala, grew up in New Delhi. He was a student at Mount St. Mary’s School in Delhi Cantt. and a Delhi University graduate who waited tables for six months before landing his big break, singing in a commercial jingle. In addition to Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, and other Indian languages, he also performed in Odia, Bengali, Assamese, and Gujarati. Krishnakumar Kunnath, often known as KK, was born in Delhi, India, on August 23, 1968. Mount St. Mary’s School in Delhi was where he acquired his elementary education and spent his childhood. He graduated from Kirori Mal College in Delhi with a bachelor’s degree in business. In four years, he performed almost 3,500 jingles in eleven languages. UTV for jingles was his first major break in Mumbai. When Lesle Lewis gave him his first Indian jingle and introduced him to Bollywood, he considered her a mentor.
However, it was AR Rahman who established KK as a household name in the realm of cinematic music. He sang “Kalluri Saaley” and “Hello Dr.” from Kadir’s Kadhal Desam before going on to “Strawberry Kannae” from the musical film Minsara Kanavu by AVM Productions.
“TADAP TADAP” from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “HUM, DIL DE CHUKKE SANM” by KK shattered all previous records in 1999. His prior work included singing Gulzar’s Chhod Aye Hum in the film Maachis, which earned little attention. Sony Music also submitted KK’s quest for a new vocalist that year. Following his selection as the year’s outstanding talent, he released his debut solo album, Pal with Lesle Lewis. KK died at the age of 53. KK got ill at a concert at Nazrul Manch in Kolkata. According to accounts, the famed musician felt uneasy and fell after arriving at his hotel.
