Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, commonly known as NTR, had a prolific career in both cinema and politics. With over 300 films to his credit in Telugu and other languages, he also held the position of Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for three consecutive terms.
NTR began his cinematic journey portraying a policeman in “Mana Desam” (1949) and subsequently appeared in “Palletoori Pilla,” directed by B. A. Subba Rao. His entry into mythological roles came with the iconic portrayal of Lord Krishna in the 1957 blockbuster “Maya Bazaar.” He continued to depict Krishna in 17 films, including notable works like “Sri Krishnarjuna Yudham” (1962), the Tamil film “Karnan” (1964), and “Daana Veera Soora Karna” (1977). His portrayal of Lord Rama, seen in films like “Lava Kusha” (1963) and “Shri Ramanjaneya Yuddham” (1974), further solidified his status as a versatile actor.
Transitioning from cinema to politics, NTR established the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982. His political career saw him serve as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for three terms, spanning from 1983 to 1995.
