Sachin Tendulkar (2008-2011)
During the 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Sachin Tendulkar led the Mumbai Indians (MI) as their first captain. Even with a roster filled with outstanding players, the club struggled to get going and finished the season in the bottom half of the standings. After this early disappointment, they made significant strides, placing sixth in 2009. The pivotal moment came in 2010 when Tendulkar’s Mumbai Indians finally found their footing, winning five straight games and qualifying for the playoffs for the first time.
Harbhajan Singh (2008-2012)
Harbhajan Singh emerged as the captain of the team while Sachin Tendulkar was not available to lead. He eventually succeeded him in 2011. After leading MI to their first-ever Champions League Twenty20 trophy, Harbhajan Singh relinquished his captaincy for the team’s 2012 IPL Eliminator.
Shaun Pollock (2008)
The Mumbai Indians named renowned South African cricketer Shaun Pollock as their captain following Harbhajan Singh’s suspension for striking Sreesanth during a game against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2008. As captain, Pollock did a fantastic job of leading the squad to win in each of the six games. But Sachin Tendulkar took up the captaincy duties after recovering from his injury.
