The highly anticipated horror-comedy “Stree 2,” starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has emerged as a major success in advance ticket sales, positioning itself as one of the biggest hits of 2024. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film has already set a new benchmark by selling the highest number of advance tickets in top national theater chains this year. As of 12 PM on August 14, “Stree 2” has sold an impressive 2.60 lakh tickets across the three leading national chains—PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis.
“Stree 2” Surpasses Major Releases in Pre-Sales
In a three-way box office clash, “Stree 2” has dominated the competition, outperforming rival films “Khel Khel Mein” and “Vedaa” by a significant margin. The Shraddha Kapoor starrer has also outpaced other major releases of 2024, including “Fighter” and “Kalki 2898 AD,” securing the top position in advance ticket sales. With 12 hours still remaining before its official release, “Stree 2” has already sold 2.60 lakh tickets for its opening day in the top multiplex chains, surpassing the advance sales of “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi” (2.15 lakh), “Fighter” (1.45 lakh), “Article 370” (1.25 lakh), and “Kalki 2898 AD” (1.25 lakh). Notably, “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi” and “Article 370” benefited from Cinema Lovers Day, where tickets were available at a flat rate of Rs 99.
Paid Previews Boost “Stree 2” Sales
The makers of “Stree 2” have also organized Paid Previews on the night of August 14, a day before its official release. These previews have already sold approximately 70,000 tickets in the top national chains, with the potential to exceed 1 lakh tickets by the end of the pre-sales period. If walk-in sales are strong, “Stree 2” might challenge the 11-year-old record for the highest-paid preview returns, previously held by “Chennai Express.”
Including the Paid Previews, “Stree 2” has reached a total of 3.30 lakh tickets sold in advance across PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. With these impressive numbers, the film is projected to target an opening day gross of Rs 40 crore.
