Randeep Hooda, who entered Bollywood with Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding in 2001, is recognized as one of the industry’s most skilled actors. Known for his roles in films like Highway and Sarbjit, he was last seen directing Swatantrya Veer Savarkar earlier this year. Recently, he made a statement claiming that actors like Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor can’t do what he does, and spoke openly about his limited abilities as a dancer.
During the India Today Mind Rocks 2024 Youth Summit, Randeep discussed why he prefers method acting over dancing. He shared that he enjoys “transformational” acting, where he prepares to fully understand a character’s reality.

He gave an example from his experiences playing police officers, noting that he avoids portraying “cardboard cops” who are only defined by their uniform. He also spoke about not competing with actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, or Tiger Shroff when it comes to dancing, acknowledging that while they excel in dance, his strength lies elsewhere. Randeep admitted he’s not great at dancing, so he focused on becoming better at acting.
“They are cops, but also human beings. That’s how I bring something different. Since I wasn’t good at dancing, I worked to become good at acting. Why compete with Hrithik, Shahid, or Tiger when they excel at dance? They can’t do what I do. Everyone should find their own strength,” Randeep said.

He also reflected on his career, saying he’s been part of both meaningful and entertaining films. Randeep emphasized that filmmakers shouldn’t try to preach to their audiences because “no one likes being lectured.” Instead, he believes movies should inform through entertainment, as that’s what viewers take away from the experience.
Randeep’s performance in Highway, alongside Alia Bhatt, was widely appreciated. Other key films in his career include Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Murder 3, Kick, and Sultan.
