Ameesha Patel is born to a businessman, Amit Patel, and homemaker Asha Patel. She happens to be the granddaughter of notable lawyer as well as politician Barrister Rajni Patel, who was a prominent Congress leader and close associate of Indira Gandhi. Here too, in her family lineage, there’s another name, that of her brother Ashmit Patel-Bollywood actor.
Early education at the Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai, saw Ameesha doing exceptionally well academically. She went on to further her education at Tufts University in the United States, where she majored in economics, and earned higher honors degrees. This apart, Ameesha has been a professional Bharatanatyam dancer since a child, bringing a significantly well-rounded talent that can be equaled only to a few.
Career Beginnings and Rise to Stardom
Ameesha Patel’s fortune rested in luck. She’s an academically bent person, but she always carried an inclination towards acting. When she came back to India from the U.S., she worked as an economic analyst for a short while. Eventually, she shifted to modeling. She does remember doing several commercials for Bajaj, Fair & Lovely, and Lux among major brands before films nudged her door open.
Ameesha made her Bollywood debut in 2000 with the blockbuster romantic thriller Kaho Naa. Pyaar Hai opposite Hrithik Roshan. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the film catapulted both Hrithik and Ameesha to stardom, and she received rave reviews for her role as Sonia-the pampered girl caught in intrigue-and won many awards, among which was the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.
