RJ Balaji is an all-rounder Indian showman, who has built a perfect career in radio, cinema and television backgrounds in the Tamil language. He is known to be the most popular presenter on BIG FM 92.7, where he has guest hosted different programs, starting from “Take It Easy” to “Cross Talk,” both one of the much talked about prank calls shows calling unsuspecting listeners. Besides his visibility in television, he does plenty of work. He made his debut in the Tamil film world with Ethir Neechal, and after that, he never looked back as many more films came under his belt. Education:
Balaji describes his “mother could not stay in one spot,” which translates to the fact that he shifted 24 times in his childhood to different schools to attend 11 different schools. His master’s degree in journalism was stalled. He made an application to the Amrita School of Communication in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Early Life:
Balaji was born on June 20 and raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is the eldest of four siblings, with a younger brother and three sisters all below the age of 10. His father, he said, eventually left the family. Though he wanted to be a journalist, circumstances did not allow him to do so. In the process of browsing a newspaper, he found an ad for a radio station. He applied for the RJ position, got selected, and the rest is history. RJ Balaji had to quit his studies as he was more keenly interested in his career. “Hello Coimbatore” was his first assignment as RJ where he was introduced to the public. Four years of experience for Coimbatore as an RJ brought him the big break of hosting a show on 92.7 Big FM, and after sometime, he became the talk of the town hosting the prime time evening show Take It Easy.

Career Highlights:
RJ Balaji debut as an actor as voice-over for Puthagam in the year 2013. RJ Balaji’s debut film as an actor was Ethir Neechal, he won two consecutive wins of Best Comedian, the one for which was Naanum Rowdy Dhaan SIIMA and one was IIFA Utsavam. He acted in many other films too. Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru, Vadacurry, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, and Pugazh. Besides all these, he is also highly appreciated as a dedicated social activist on behalf of his helping hands and aid to the needy people and Chennai disaster victims.

The movie Puthagam (2013) included Sathya, Sanjaya, Vignesh, Rakul Preet Singh, and Aishwarya Rajesh in pivotal roles and had Balaji who is a voiceover introduction for all of them. He did a cameo in Ethir Neechal and a lead role came in the form of Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru in the same year. After doing some anchoring, he returned back onto the silver screen for the audiences with Vallinam (2014). Vaayai Moodi Pesavum was his second release of the year 2014. He managed to get into the frames of Idhu Enna Maayam, Yatchan, and Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in 2015; in this, he won the SIIMA Award for Best Comedian for Naanum Rowdydhaan. In 2016, he acted and sang in the movies Jil Jung Juk and Pugazh, while penning down some song lines for the theme song. Once again, he voiced an introductory scene for the main characters in Muthina Kathirika (2016), mainly Muthupandi (Sundar C.). Other films added to this list include Devi, Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru (2016), Kaatru Veliyidai (2017), Spyder (2017), and Kee (2017). His true cinematic identity was sealed off in LKG (2019). The movie was a massive box office hit in Tamil Nadu. His directorial debut, Mookuthi Amman which he released this year stars Nayanthara. He then both acted as well as directed Veetla Vishesham 2022, which is the official remake of the 2018 Hindi hit Badhaai Ho.
