Born on January 10, 1993, in a village called Mullianwal in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab, Amritpal Singh Dhillon is more popularly known as AP Dhillon. From being just a small-town artist, he rose to become an international music icon for his blend of traditional Punjabi music with modern hip-hop and R&B sounds.

Born to a Punjabi Sikh family, Dhillon grew up surrounded by deep cultural traditions that inform his sensibilities musically. Little is known of his parents except that they supported his development as a musician.

Education

It is since school days at Little Flower Convent School, Gurdaspur. Here his interest in music also surfaced. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Baba Kuma Singh Ji Engineering College, Amritsar. Further, he shifted to Canada, where he has graduated in Business Administration and Management with a Diploma in the said fields from Camosun College, British Columbia.

Career Starts

Dhillon began his career working for Best Buy, but he soon became too caught up in music. In 2019, he put out the single “Fake” under his label, Run-Up Records, with Shinda Kahlon. It was the start of a string of hits that brought him into the mainstream of music.

With his banger song “Majhail,” with Gurinder Gill and Manni Sandhu, dominating the UK Asian and Punjabi charts, Dhillon went ahead to be an international success after the humongous hit “Brown Munde” that brought along Gurinder Gill, Gminxr, and Shinda Kahlon. The “Brown Munde” broke every record when it landed at Apple Music in Canada while taking the top position on the same while going all the way up to become number one of the UK Asian chart.

In 2020, Dhillon released his collaborative EP Not by Chance, which featured Gurinder Gill and Money Musik. The effort went huge with the crowds and stayed at the NZ charts. He also performed live; his performances mostly on his “Over The Top – The Takeover Tour” were a success when he traversed India to deliver concerts.
