Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan, after basking in the glory for his role in the biographical sports drama Chandu Champion, has been catching the attention of Bollywood audiences with his frank comments about what it takes to make it as an outsider in the industry. In his most recent interview with GQ, Kartik discussed how conventionally Bollywood has been perceived as just about connections and money and delved into topics like nepotism, mental health, and, of course, the hustles involved in not being a film family member.
According to Kartik, one must prevent having a foothold in the industry where connections play a major role. He revealed that being an outsider from the Bollywood “inner circle” has affected his career in many ways. “It’s difficult to get opportunities, and it’s also difficult to have your work recognized when you’re not from the industry,” he said, adding that this has been a repeating element of his journey.

On the contrary, he believes that being an outsider has only molded him into a stronger person, not held him back. He credits achievement on determination and reflection stating: “For me, being an outsider is not a disadvantage but a testament to my hard work. My achievements are mine alone, not the result of industry connections.”
Kartik, too, talked about the emotional pressures he’s faced. He confessed that sometimes he feels lonely because there is no inbuilt support system within the Bollywood industry. Describing how possibly it would have been much easier had he not been there, he said that this has really motivated him to put in extra effort to prove his worth.

Professionally, Kartik recently returned as Rooh Baba in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring opposite an ensemble including Triptii Dimri, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, and Vidya Balan in the much-anticipated sequel.
