Throwball is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport played on a rectangular court, where two teams of seven players each compete against each other, with the objective of throwing and catching the ball across the net that divides the court, requiring skill, strategy, and teamwork to outmaneuver the opposing team.

HISTORY :
Throwball has its roots in Asia, particularly on the Indian subcontinent, where it originated as a women’s sport in Chennai, India in the 1940s, influenced by the YMCA. The game shares similarities with volleyball and Newcomb ball, with formal rules being drafted in 1955. India hosted its first national championship in 1980, and the sport is now governed by the International Throwball Federation, the highest governing body for the sport.
RULES & REGULATIONS :

Team Composition
Throwball is a team sport with 12 players in each team, consisting of 7 active players and 5 substitutes.
Gameplay
The match played best of 3 sets, with each set consisting of 25 points and a rally score. Players must catch the ball with both hands and return it with one hand.
Serving Rules
The service ball must be released from above the shoulder or shoulder line, without touching the net. Players must serve within 5 seconds of the whistle and from the service zone.
Gameplay Restrictions
Double touches are not allowed when receiving the service ball. Players cannot shift the ball from right to left or left to right, and penalty points are awarded for such actions.
Time-Outs and Uniforms
Each set has two 30-second time-outs. Players must wear a proper uniform, including shorts and a jersey with numbers printed on both the front and back.
Court and Equipment
Throwball is played on a court with a perimeter of 12.2m x 18.3m, featuring a neutral box and a net at a height of 2.2m.
Scoring and Fouls
If the ball falls on the box line or in the dead zone, it is considered a foul. Two players cannot catch the ball simultaneously, resulting in a loss of points.

MAJOR COMPETITIONS :
In India, the Throwball Federation of India is responsible for organizing the prestigious National Throwball Championship. Meanwhile, on the international stage, a significant Junior International Throwball Match was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in December 2015, attracting participation from eight countries, marking a notable milestone in the sport’s global growth.
