Gambhir, the former Indian opener, who was instrumental in India’s victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, brings much experience and a winning mentality to his coaching.
Abhishek Nayar joins Gambhir’s coaching staff. A former Indian all-rounder with an impressive domestic career, Nayar has been crucial in grooming the new talent of Dinesh Karthik and Shreyas Iyer.
- Ryan ten Doeschate: He is an international league-cricketing experience-exposed Dutchman whose international approach should help the team strategize further.
- Morné Morkel: The former South African fast bowler who can generate terrific pace and bounce once used to be Pakistan’s bowling coach. It is believed his experience will only help India enhance its pace attack.
- T. Dilip: Dilip continued his job, and the fielding was made bright for India. Therefore, this makes the team nimble and give the best performance on the field.
It is a new coaching staff which the BCCI looked to bring into the side as a combination of international experience and home-based knowledge to ensure that the Indian cricket team stays on top of its game in all three formats.
His first series as captain was against Sri Lanka.
Gambhir said he is sure about the senior cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to play in the future matches, including the 2027 World Cup, if they keep fit and in good shape.
The coaching staff looks at immediate series and tournaments with a strategic approach and emphasis on developing players while keeping up the momentum achieved over the last few years.
