Shikhar Dhawan, the flamboyant Indian cricketer known for his aggressive batting and signature mustache-twirling celebrations, once had a love story that seemed straight out of a Bollywood film. His relationship with Ayesha Mukherjee, an Australian-based kickboxer, was one of the most talked-about in the cricketing world. However, despite their fairy-tale beginning, the couple eventually parted ways, proving that not all love stories have a happy ending.

How It All Started
This modern couple met over social media: Shikhar Dhawan, the cricketer, connected with Ayesha Mukherjee on Facebook. A fitness enthusiast and single mother of two daughters, she was a part-time kickboxer from India but based out of Australia when she connected to Dhawan, courtesy cricketer Harbhajan Singh’s mutual connection, who is known to have many friends in her contact list too.
Despite their respective backgrounds, fitness and sports remain a common thing between Dhawan and Ayesha. So, they had a great romance, and were engaged in the year 2009. Again, due to cricketing assignments of Dhawan and motherly responsibilities of Ayesha, they waited a few years for marriage.
Grand Wedding and new beginnings
The couple finally got married in a traditional Sikh wedding ceremony in 2012, blending both Indian and Australian cultures. Dhawan, who was still establishing himself in international cricket, embraced not only Ayesha but also her two daughters, treating them as his own. The couple later welcomed their son, Zoravar, making their family complete.
For many years, their life seemed to have been a poster boy for picture-perfect marriage. Ayesha often took to social media to share every moment of life with Dhawan, from moments of love, travel adventures to family moments. Dhawan has also spoken warmly about how Ayesha always kept him tethered and encouraged in his cricketing career.
Cracks in the Relationship and the Divorce
Despite the strong bond, cracks started appearing in their relationship. Long-distance challenges, cultural differences, and personal differences began to take a toll. In 2021, after nearly a decade of marriage, Ayesha announced their divorce on social media. Dhawan later confirmed it, stating that it was a tough phase but he accepted it with maturity.
Reports indicate that the divorce was not easy at all since the couple had to fight some lawsuits over the custody and finances. Dhawan indeed spoke about the challenges of his life in personal terms in those days but kept himself busy with his career and other personal developments towards movement.

Life After Divorce
Post-divorce, both of them have started a new life. Dhawan, who is one of the integral parts of Indian cricket, remained highly focused in his game besides spending quality time with his son. Ayesha, on the other hand, continued her journey as a fitness trainer and motivational speaker.
