Ravi Kumar Sihag is a 2021-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who achieved the 18th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) using the Hindi medium. Very few Hindi-medium candidates get high ranks in UPSC, and thus, he has emerged as a role model for Hindi-speaking aspirants. His success story is one of determination, dedication, and a systematic approach towards one of India’s most competitive exams.

Age and Early Life

Poonam Sihag (housewife), Raveena Sihag (schoolteacher), and Komal Sihag (supervisor of Anganwadi). Although Ravi had a village upbringing, which was no armchair life, his family supported his education.

Education

Ravi chugged away at his studies at the terrific New Hope School in Vijayanagar, a place in Rajasthan where learning flourished. Then, he graduated from Maharaja Ganga Singh College in Rajasthan in 2016 with a degree in Political Science, Economics, and English. His educational background gave him a solid base to prepare for the UPSC. Right after graduation, he got down to studying for his UPSC exams and threw himself into the elective paper of Hindi Literature with great effort.

Ravi’s UPSC experience is one of struggle and progress through a series of attempts:

First Attempt (2018): Held rank 337th and was allotted to Indian Defense Accounts Service (IDAS).

Second Attempt (2019): Held rank 317th and got allotment to Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS).

Third Attempt (2020): Did not clear the preliminaries.

Fourth Attempt (2021): I cleared 18th rank, highest among Hindi-medium candidates.

Ravi’s decision to stick with Hindi as his medium of examination made his achievement even more remarkable.
