Medha Shankar was born in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on August 1, 1997, into a family with artistic leanings. Her father, Abhay Shankar, was employed at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, while her mother, late Rachna Shankar, contributed to choreography and direction of dances and plays for children. Medha’s initiation into the arts led her into Hindustani classical music training along with training in sitar, harmonium, and keyboard. She attended Vidya Bharti Public School in Noida for her school education and completed her master’s in Fashion Management from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi.​

Career Beginnings

The entry into the entertainment world started with modeling and included beauty pageants such as Campus Princess 2016 for Medha. She featured in commercial advertisements for Coca-Cola, Paytm, and Big Bazaar. Her acting debut was in 2019 with the British television series “Beecham House” as Roshanara. In 2021, she stepped into movies through “Shaadisthan” as Arshi, a teenager caught between familial expectations. The same year, she appeared in the web series “Dil Bekaraar” as Eshwari, the youngest sibling in a 1980s family drama .​

Breakthrough with “12th Fail”

Medha’s breakthrough role came in 2023 with the biographical drama “12th Fail,” directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. She played Shraddha Joshi, an Indian Revenue Service officer and the supportive partner of the protagonist, Manoj Kumar Sharma. The film, based on Anurag Pathak’s book, received critical acclaim, and Medha’s performance was lauded for its authenticity. She also lent her voice to the song “Bolo Na” in the film .​

Awards and Recognition

In 2024, Medha Shankar received the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut for her role in “12th Fail”. She was also awarded an IMDb STARmeter Award, acting as a recognition for rising popularity and a powerful performance in the film.​
