Monica Gadgil hails from the metropolis of Mumbai, Maharashtra. With a lineage endowed with a fine musical tradition, she was nurtured in a milieu of music from her very childhood. Her education was under a rigid North American system wherein she flourished in academics while at the same time engaging in several creative and cultural fields.

Musical Training and Career

Monica was trained in music under the guidance of Ustad Dilshad Khan Sahib; the training refined her vocal skills and enriched her musical knowledge. She came into the limelight when she participated in Season 1 of Fame Gurukul, a reality show created by Sony Entertainment Television to find fresh singing talents across India. Her soulful performances set her apart from other contestants including Arijit Singh, and she reached the top 8 in the competition.

After Fame Gurukul, Monica kept the momentum going with her music career while playing gigs all over India, singing for the album Radhe Radhe, Sing Along series, for the song “Choti Choti Gaiyaan”. Monica has a particular affinity for Ghazals and is also passionate about dancing.

Personal Life

Monica Gadgil was previously married to singer Arijit Singh. The couple met at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata, where they bonded over their shared interests in music and film. They married in 2014 in a private ceremony attended by close family and friends. However, Arijit’s increasing fame, along with his busy career, led to difficulties for the couple, who eventually separated in 2015. Post-separation, Monica remained away from the public eye and started to devote her time to social causes.
