Anjana Om Kashyap was born June 12, 1975, in Ranchi, which at that time was part of Bihar but is now in Jharkhand. She is from a Bhumihar Brahmin background.
Anjana spent her early years in the schools of Loreto Convent and Delhi Public School in Ranchi. She was an excellent student, which also saw her take up many extracurricular activities, which she did very well at and also held in high regard leadership roles as head girl and hosteler president.
Although she had always aspired to be a doctor and enrolled at Daulat Ram College for Botanical studies in Delhi University, what happened was that she did not pass the All India Pre Medical Test. Later on, she got a Master’s in Social Work from the Delhi School of Social Work, which was a turn from the medical path. Also, she went on to get a diploma in journalism from Jamia Millia Islamia, which in turn led her into a career in media.
Career Journey
Anjana started in journalism in the early 2000s at Doordarshan, which saw her anchor “Aankhon Dekhi”. Also, to report for Zee News and News 24, she did, which is where she began to put forth the sharp and confident persona that we know today.
Her big break came when she joined Aaj Tak, which today she is at as Managing Editor. Known for her intense debates and in-depth reporting, she has hosted many large-scale issue-based shows like “Halla Bol”, “Dilli Ke Dil Mein Kya Hai” and “Rajtilak”. Also, it is her no-holds-barred approach that has made her a very respected and watched personality in Hindi journalism.
Anjana has won out in the field of journalism, which includes Best Anchor and Excellence in Journalism awards from many media and industry organisations.
Personal Life
Anjana’s husband is Mangesh Kashyap from the 1995 IPS batch. The pair met as students at Delhi University and over the years have built a strong team. They have 2 children which including a son and a daughter.
Mangesh held at one time what are considered very important posts in the admin structure, which included that of Additional DCP in the Delhi Police and Chief Vigilance Officer of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. At present, he lives in New Delhi with his family, which he balances well with his career.
Public Controversies
In 2019, it was reported that she had entered a hospital’s NICU during the encephalitis outbreak in Bihar without permission, which in turn caused pushback from medical professionals.
She has also been put under the microscope for what is thought of as political bias and put to task regarding the scope of her husband’s government posts. But still, she is a very present entity in Indian media.
