In a world that tends to outdo fiction, Delulu Express steps forward as a relevant and hilarious stand-up special. The title is a play on the word “delulu” a made-up word for delusional that Gen Z uses which refers to unrealistic dreams of success or love. With a smart set that plays between fantasy and hard truths, the comic behind Delulu Express puts on a tight, punchy show filled with sarcasm, storytelling, and incisive observation.
A Modern Satire of Self-Delusion
We went all in on single-direction tickets to the Delulu Express the day we thought that a message without emojis still meant he liked us.
That opening sets the stage for the whole special funny, self-conscious, and very honest.

Standout Segments and Crowd Reactions
In some of the best segments of the special, we see our take on people’s first dates which didn’t go as planned at all but which at the moment they were acting out in their heads as going very well. We see this play out with a performer who puts on the face that it is going great only to drop the mask and reveal how it all fell apart. The audience goes wild with knowing laughter, especially the young folks who relate to what we may call the “delulu” trend of falling in love with a person based almost solely on their story.
Another point that stands out is that it puts forward career aspirations. “We are selling modern-day witchcraft here,” the comic says of people’s love to put out great images of success which in turn do not include the hard work. The joke goes down a treat which brings the house in terms of applause and laughter.
