Since the release of Kesari Chapter 2 in theatres on April 18, 2025, Kesari Chapter 2 has become a topic for discussion not only among the audience but also among critics. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2 is a great movie that has won the praise of many people. Unlike the first installment of the movie, Kesari Chapter 2 depicts courtroom drama as opposed to heroism displayed by warriors on the battlefield. Kesari Chapter 2 is based on real events.

The plot of Kesari Chapter 2 is set after the notorious massacre at Jallianwala Bagh, where an Indian barrister by the name C. Sankaran Nair defied the supremacy of the British Empire.

Dilreet Gill in Kesari Chapter 2 is described as an ardent lawyer from Jalandhar who pursues her study of law during the period of British rule. Inspired by the courageous actions of Sankaran Nair, Dilreet becomes actively involved in fighting for justice for the oppressed.

We see that Dilreet meets Nair when she visits Kirpal Singh’s house and notices tension arising due to the unnatural death of his son, which had been misinterpreted by the British government. Although initially skeptical about Nair’s actions, later she realizes that he was right and decides to join him after observing the terrible truth of Jallianwala Bagh.

This time, Dilreet boldly takes an initiative by deciding to sue the British Crown and Dyer, with Nair eventually joining her as co-counsel. With this character, Kesari shows how resistance could be carried out by brave young people.

Another important question many have regarding this film is whether there actually existed a Dilreet Gill in reality. From available historical sources, we can conclude that much attention has been paid to the Hunter Commission created to investigate the facts of the massacre. Although Indians were members of the commission, Nair was not one of them.

There is no concrete historical evidence confirming the existence of a lawyer named Dilreet Gill who played such a role. However, it is important to note that colonial-era documentation was often controlled and selective. Many voices critical of British rule may have been underreported or erased.

As a result, Dilreet Gill appears to be either a fictional character or a symbolic representation of multiple unsung individuals who resisted injustice during that time.

Final Thoughts

Kesari Chapter 2 blends historical fact with creative storytelling to present a compelling narrative about justice and courage. While characters like Sankaran Nair are firmly rooted in history, others like Dilreet Gill add emotional depth and contemporary relevance to the story.
