Career Trajectory and Breakthroughs
I was born to play a child in the 2005 film Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!, which saw me appear on screen for the first time along with my brother Shahid Kapoor. But my proper adult breakout was in world cinema. I caught the note of the great Iranian director Majid Majidi, who cast me in the lead role of the very successful drama Beyond the Clouds (2017). I played the character of Amir, a street-smart hustler, which got me the Best Actor award at the International Bosphorus Film Festival.
In 2018, he premiered in the commercial release of Dhadak, which is a romantic drama that also starred Janhvi Kapoor. That film was a great box office success, which in turn put him into the mainstream limelight. After that, he diversified his film portfolio, which saw the action comedy Khaali Peeli (2020) and the horror comedy Phone Bhoot (2022), and also put on screen the real-life military hero Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta in the war drama Pippa (2023).
International Reach and Recent Success
Ishaan has grown his global presence greatly. In 2024, he premiered in the Netflix series The Perfect Couple (which also marked his entry into Hollywood), which he shared with Nicole Kidman. Also, as a result of this international exposure, he starred in the lead role in the romance series The Royals, which also featured his performance as the very charismatic character Aviraaj Singh.
