Top 7 Best Areas to Stay in Bali In 2026
Finding your ideal base in Bali is what makes a great trip. After weeks of travelling this amazing island, which I did, I can report that each neighbourhood has its own character. From catching world-class waves to diving into ancient culture or just relaxing in a luxury resort, here are the top seven areas to stay in Bali for 2026.
- Ubud: The Cultural Heartland
If I had to tell you which part of Bali truly is the soul of the place, it would be Ubud. In the central highlands, that town is surrounded by green rice terraces of a very deep colour, mist-hung rainforests, and temples over two hundred years old. An oasis, in fact, for health seekers, yoga enthusiasts, and art lovers is what it is. I am related to someone that went to a yoga retreat for a whole month outside the city centre in Penestanan, and to this day will go back to the stories of how early in the morning the temple bells used to sound, that deep peace that enveloped the environment. The perfect break for a slower and more aware and thoughtful pace of life.
- Canggu: The Bohemian Hub
In a different tone, Canggu is at the moment the trendiest neighbourhood on the southwest coast. What we have here is a transformation of a small-time surf town into a busy creative mecca, which includes hipster cafes, co-working spaces and great beach clubs. It is the playground for digital nomads and solo travellers. If you do decide to stay here, prepare yourself for busy streets filled with scooters, amazing brunch spots and a young, free-spirited energy that makes it very easy to meet new people.

- Seminyak: Upscale Beachfront Luxury
Just off the coast from Canggu is Seminyak which is Bali’s most put-together and upscale beach destination. If you are into fine dining, boutique shopping, and trendy beachfront clubs like Potato Head, that is what you will find here. The streets are very walkable, the beaches are clean, and the sunsets are to die for. I took a walk at Petitenget Beach during a trip with my partner at sunset, the gold had just set over the water. It was a moment we won’t forget. It is ideal for couples and first-time visitors looking for a luxurious experience near the action.
- Uluwatu: Clifftop Romance and Surf
Perched above the dramatic limestone cliffs that line the southern Bukit Peninsula, Uluwatu puts on a show that takes your breath away. This is a world famous spot for its huge surf breaks, cave accessible hidden beaches and luxury cliff top villas. Here life is at a slower pace, which is at the will of the ocean tides and that of the great evening sunsets. It is a great place for that raw coastal beauty, privacy and that exclusive tropical experience.
- Sanur: The Chill Family Escape
Situated on the eastern coast, which is much quieter, Sanur is a charming coastal town that gives you a great look into the more traditional side of Bali. Also, because of the reef, which protects the area, the water is very calm and shallow, which in turn makes it very safe for swimming. We have a beautifully paved beachfront path which stretches for miles, ideal for your morning cycle ride. This is the number one choice for families, older travellers, or anyone looking for a relaxed beach vacation that doesn’t include the West Coast chaos.
- Nusa Dua: The Stress-Free Resort Enclave

If what you want is to drop your bags and live at the pool and not think twice about anything, go to Nusa Dua. This planned-out, gated resort area is home to some of the best five-star international hotels on the island. The beaches are perfect, maintained to the tooth and very peaceful. You won’t see much of the local scene here but you do get unrivaled safety, top service and world class spas for a truly stress free holiday.
- Amed: The Slow Coastal Secret
For travellers looking to get off the main tourist beat, Amed is that which is found in Bali’s far east. It is a series of traditional fishing villages which also happen to have reports of very striking black sand beaches, very alive coral reefs offshore, and what is to die for unspoiled views of Mount Agung which is Bali’s largest active volcano. It is a diver’s and snorkeler’s paradise and the destination of choice for slow travellers who want to experience tranquil, undisturbed old school Bali.
