Telugu cinema has indeed become one of the leading film industries in India, which is very exciting, from the grand action movies to the very emotional dramas and also the in-your-face social issues. Also, they are adding to their catalogue on Netflix, which in turn is for the world to see both the new blockbusters and the classic films. For new fans as well as the long-time fans of Tollywood, here are my picks of ten must-see movies. I still recall the time I watched a Telugu film with my cousins during a family movie night, since then I have been a great admirer of the industry’s talent in which they put out such a mix of emotion, entertainment, and that which can only be described as an out of this world music.
1. RRR (2022)
S. S. Rajamouli’s RRR is a project that will forever be considered a masterpiece in the Indian film industry. In the lead as the two great freedom fighters are Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, who also star with other notable actors. What we get is a fictional story which at the same time is very much real, what with its amazing action sequences, deep emotional content and stunning visual effects. Also adding to the grandness of the film is the Oscar-winning track “Natu Natu”, which really sets the blood pumping to another level in what is truly an unforgettable film experience.
2. Pushpa: The Rule – Part 2 (2024)
Allu Arjun is back as Pushpa Raj in this high-energy sequel, which ups the ante with more intense conflicts, political drama and style in action sequences. Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil put in great performances, which in turn makes this a thrilling entry into one of Telugu cinema’s big franchise series.
3. Kalki 2898 AD (2024)
In a mix of myth and the far future, Kalki 2898 AD presents a visual feast which is unlike anything we have seen in Indian film to date. Starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan, the film does grand storytelling with in-your-face VFX, which makes it a science fiction must-see.
4. Lucky Baskhar (2024)

Dulquer Salmaan does very well in the role of a typical bank employee, which he then takes into a dangerous financial situation because of his ambition. The film does a great job of presenting suspense, family drama, and also very smart story lines which at the same time look at the price of success. It is an involved thriller which leaves the audience at the edge of their seats from start to finish.
5. Shyam Singha Roy (2021)
Nani gives a career-best performance in this beautifully put-together drama on the themes of reincarnation, social justice, and destiny. The movie, which also sees the story play out in two different timelines, does so with grace; it also features moving storytelling, great music, and very impressive cinematography.
6. Cinema Bandi (2021)
This wonderful comedy drama, which also comes from a small budget, does in fact prove that quality of story trumps production value. We see the village folks who, by chance, get a professional-grade camera, and they set out to produce their very own film. Also, it has a very light-hearted humour, is easy to root for the characters in and leaves you on a positive note, which is what makes it a no-brainer to recommend.
7. Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya (2020)
A film which is a break from the norm in terms of what we usually see. Our story is of a basic photographer whom we follow as he sets out to restore his respect after a time of public shame. Also very much a character study which may hit close to home for some, the actors do very natural work and the rural background is so tranquil that it almost acts as a character itself, which by the film’s end has left you with a great sense of peace.
8. Oh! Baby (2019)
Samantha Ruth Prabhu does an amazing job in this fantasy comedy of an old woman who magically reverts to youth. The film does a great job of interweaving humour with very emotional scenes, as it also looks at issues of family, friendship, and second chances in life.
9. Daaku Maharaaj (2025)
This action hero, which stars Nandamuri Balakrishna, does so in a great performance that is a mix of intense action, emotion, and large-scale heroics. The film, which has wide appeal, also presents an interesting plot that leaves the audience entertained.
10. Sampradayaini Suppini Suddapusaani (2026)
Among Netflix’s more recent Telugu adds, this family drama also includes comedy, relationships, and village politics. It has unique characters which in turn present an engaging story that will appeal to viewers looking for a different take from the main action films.
