Method to make avarakkai poriyal
Preparation of beans:

Wash the avarakkai thoroughly with water. Cut off both ends of the beans. Pull off the threads from either side of the beans. Inspect the pod for any damaged portions and cut them off. Cut the avarakkai into pieces.
Preparation of tempering (tarka)

Heat the coconut oil in a kadai on low or medium flame. Temper with mustard seeds and wait until they pop. Then add urad dal and roast till it changes colour to golden brown. Then add green chilli, curry leaves, and hing.
Step 3: Adding the chopped avarakkai

Here, we need to add the chopped avarakkai to the process of tempering. Add salt to the dish according to the quantity required and mix the avarakkai with it.
Step 4: Cooking the avarakkai
Now, we need to pour one-half a cup of water to the kadai and mix all the ingredients. Here, the next step is to put a lid on the kadai and let the dish cook over a medium or low flame until the beans become soft and cooked.
In case there is still some water left before the cooking of beans, we may add more water to it.
Step 5: Drying the extra water

Once the avarakkai is cooked and becomes soft, we have to remove the lid from the kadai and cook the dish.
Step 6: Adding fresh grated coconut
Now, add fresh grated coconut and mix all the ingredients together. We have to allow it to be cooked for one minute on a low flame. We can switch off the flame.
Step 7: Serving hot
Serve the cooked Avarakkai Poriyal in a serving bowl.
