Tragically, on a Friday morning, the 52-year-old Kathiravan succumbed to a heart attack at a private hospital in Chennai, leaving behind a legacy of transformative initiatives and a loving family. Survived by his wife K. Thenmozhi and two daughters, his untimely departure plunged the administrative fraternity into mourning, mourning the loss of a true leader.
Kathiravan’s academic journey began in his hometown, where he completed his early education before embarking on a path of higher learning. Graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the esteemed Anna University in Chennai, Kathiravan laid the groundwork for a career dedicated to serving the people.
Upon successfully clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2003, Kathiravan joined the prestigious Indian Administrative Service, where he was allotted the Tamil Nadu cadre. His journey in public service commenced as a Sub-Collector in Dharmapuri district, where he tirelessly worked towards uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the underprivileged.
Transferred to Pudukottai district in 2005 as a District Revenue Officer, Kathiravan spearheaded numerous land reforms and revenue generation initiatives, advocating for the welfare of farmers and facilitating their access to government schemes and subsidies.

In 2008, Kathiravan assumed the role of Collector of Tiruvallur district, where he confronted challenges ranging from water scarcity to infrastructural deficiencies. With his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment, Tiruvallur emerged as a beacon of development in Tamil Nadu.
His tenure as Joint Commissioner of the Corporation of Chennai in 2010 saw the implementation of transformative projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Chennai’s residents. From constructing flyovers to revitalizing the iconic Marina beach, Kathiravan’s impact was profound and far-reaching.
Appointed as the Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in 2013, Kathiravan introduced pioneering reforms, modernizing the ticketing system and enhancing operational efficiency through GPS tracking devices in buses.
Promoted to Secretary in the Department of Agriculture in 2016, Kathiravan championed sustainable agricultural practices, empowering farmers and bolstering rural livelihoods. His contributions to the cultivation of millets and traditional crops underscored his commitment to inclusive growth.
