Imtiaz Ali has clarified that Dosanjh did not undergo a haircut to embody the character of Chamkila; instead, he opted for a wig.

Dosanjh, in previous interviews, had expressed reluctance towards roles requiring a haircut and turban removal. Yet, his appearance in “Amar Singh Chamkila” with short hair and sans turban raised eyebrows.

During a Radio Nasha interview, Imtiaz Ali disclosed that Dosanjh maintained his hair intact and wore a wig to emulate Chamkila’s appearance. Ali, while respecting Dosanjh’s privacy, affirmed the use of a wig for the role, akin to Dosanjh’s turban.

“He embodied the character earnestly and with genuine intentions,” remarked Imtiaz Ali on Dosanjh’s portrayal.

“Amar Singh Chamkila” delves into the life of the renowned Punjabi singer, songwriter, and composer known for his controversial music style during the 80s. Despite his popularity, Chamkila’s life met a tragic end when he and his wife were assassinated in 1988.
