Early Life and Family

According to legend, Rani Padmavati, who was born in 1350 CE, was the daughter of Mahendra Jaisingh of the Sisodia Panchal Dynasty and was originally from Shri Nagari in Pratisthan Nagar Alwar, which is now the part of Rajasthan. According to some accounts, her father may have been named Rohila. After thher father passed away, Padmavati was raised by her aunt Padmini of Mewar; her full name in Hindi was Rani Padmini or Rani Padmavati.

Marriage and Life with Rawal Ratan Singh

Regarding her exact birth year and marriage date, there is some disagreement. Different sources indicate that she was married between 1350 and in 1377 CE, having been born between 1350 and 1351 CE. As a young girl Padmavati was to married to Rawal Ratan Singh and lived in his fort, where she gave birth to a child and rose to prominence in the community. She stayed faithful to her husband in spite of many admirers marriage proposals.

Valor and Warfare

In addition to her physical attractiveness Rani Padmavati was renowned for her intellect and combat prowesses. She led her armies to multiple victories including fights against Alauddin Khilji and his son Malik Ayaz and she was instrumental in defending her fort against invaders.

The Battle of Chittor

Alauddin Khilji’s feud was resolved in the bloody Battle of Chittor. Even after suffering injuries, Rani Padmavati fought bravely on. After the fort finally collapsed on January 14, 1398 CE, Khilji’s forces captured Padmavati and humiliated her.

Legacy and Sacrifice

Rani Padmavati and her generals refused to give up after facing multiple attacks. Khilji’s peace proposals, which included marriage proposals, were turned down. She ultimately made the decision to give her life in place of submission, turning into a symbol of defiance and honour.
