Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly stepped away from the highly anticipated sequel to Sunny Deol’s 1997 hit film, Border. Fans were eager to see Ayushmann in a new role, but recent reports suggest that he has opted out of the project due to concerns regarding his position within the ensemble cast.
According to sources, Ayushmann was in talks to portray an army jawan in Border 2. However, he was reportedly uncertain about his role in a film dominated by Sunny Deol, a major star in the industry. A source mentioned, “Although both Ayushmann and the filmmakers were enthusiastic about working together, Ayushmann felt uneasy about his position in a film led by Sunny, a powerhouse in his own right.” This news follows reports that popular Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh is also being considered for a role in Border 2.
The original Border, released in 1997, was a massive hit and remains beloved by audiences. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 will see Sunny Deol returning to the screen in uniform. The film’s release is rumored to be slated for Republic Day 2026, although an official announcement has yet to be made.
