She was a bright and merit student. Her undergraduate degree was in Electronics Engineering from Savitribai Phule Pune University, where she also held an academic gold medal. Then she went on to do a master’s in computer engineering from the Maharashtra Institute of Technology. Her academic background laid a very strong foundation for her analytical and practical approach toward spirituality.

Shivani’s spiritual journey with the Brahma Kumaris Godly Spiritual University began in earnest while she was at college. This was because her campus life, though very successful in terms of grades, had been greatly marred by several personal problems, one of which was anger control and disputes between her and her mother. After witnessing this personality change for the better in her mother since she joined Brahma Kumaris, Shivani decided to take the seven-day introductory course at a local BK center. This was such a defining moment in her life, after which she started studying Rajyoga Meditation seriously.

BK Shivani immediately became an active member of the Brahma Kumaris. She learned about Rajyoga, and that provided her peace, love, and a spiritual connection with God. Her science background helped her understand the deeper aspects of spiritual knowledge through Gyan Murlis, the daily spiritual teaching of Brahma Kumaris. This new understanding motivated her to join in the mission of bringing a “new world” or the Golden Age.

Awakening TV Series
It was in 2007 that BK Shivani’s spiritual journey went public. She was asked to answer viewers’ questions on a television series because the senior teachers were not available. It was during this period that she created a pay-to-broadcast television series “Awakening with Brahma Kumaris” on the Aastha channel where she used to be interviewed by her co-host Kanu Priya. The series, started in July 2007, soon gained popularity for the practical wisdom and clarity of the spiritual concepts explained easily in laymen’s language. These conversations of BK Shivani with Suresh Oberoi, another well-known figure, went on to be compiled into a book in 2015 as Happiness Unlimited: Awakening With Brahma Kumaris.

Today, the “Awakening” series has grown to become an international phenomenon that helps thousands of people discover spiritual understanding, peace, and harmony in their lives.
