Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, celebrates its two-year anniversary today, September 9, 2024. It’s an ideal time to revisit an interesting moment when director Ayan Mukerji shared that he initially didn’t want the world to see Alia and Ranbir together. He recalled how, during the film’s production, he told the couple they were “ruining” his movie whenever they were spotted together in public.

At a 2021 poster launch event for Brahmāstra, Ayan Mukerji revealed how he had tried to keep Alia and Ranbir’s relationship out of the spotlight. When he first cast them, he was thrilled, viewing them as “powerhouse” performers. He also noted how their relationship naturally evolved from friendship to something deeper during filming.

Since Brahmāstra was the couple’s first on-screen collaboration, Ayan was keen to preserve the freshness of their pairing for the audience. He explained, “I didn’t want the world to see them together for those four years. I wanted their on-screen chemistry to feel new.” He even admitted to discouraging them from making public appearances together, saying, “Every time they went out together, I’d be there saying, ‘You’re ruining my movie. Please don’t go out.’”

However, Ayan shared that by the time of the event, it felt good to finally reveal the couple to the world.

In celebration of the film’s second anniversary, Dharma Productions shared a special video featuring key scenes from the movie, accompanied by the caption, “Love & light forever and more! Celebrating #2YearsOfBrahmastra!”

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva is a fantasy film with a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy, with Shah Rukh Khan making a notable cameo appearance. The film was widely praised for its visual effects and soundtrack following its release on September 9, 2022.

At the 70th National Film Awards, announced on August 16, 2024, Brahmāstra took home multiple honors. It won Best Film in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comic category, while Arijit Singh received the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for the song “Kesariya.” Pritam was also honored as Best Music Director (Songs).

Reflecting on the film’s success at the National Awards, Ayan Mukerji expressed his gratitude, stating, “It’s a special moment for us. I am deeply thankful for the recognition Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva has received. The music is especially close to our hearts, and I’m so proud of Pritam Da’s compositions, Amitabh’s lyrics, and Arijit’s soulful voice.”

He further extended his thanks to his team, adding, “From the music to the visual effects, we poured our hearts into this project. I am grateful to the entire team for their incredible effort, which continues to bring us so much love.”

Karan Johar, on his Instagram Stories, also shared his excitement, writing, “So honored and ecstatic as our labor of love (and light) wins big at the prestigious 70th National Film Awards!”
