Overview:
Set in the arid, rural vast expanses of Gujarat, India, the story places women at its center stage. It recollects the earlier bitter history of four quintessential women: Rani, Lajjo, Bijli, and Janaki. We find them brazenly talking about men, sex, and life without quite mustering the élan to break out of their blinkered lives and manage to fight their own battles.
Box office:
The film did not fare significantly well upon its release in India. The film grossed a total of ₹12.03 crore US$1.79 million; ₹1.98 crore US$294,663 in India and ₹10.05 crore US$1.5 million internationally. The film fared best in France where it grossed $1,072,253 from 160,379 tickets, making it the fourth highest Indian grosser after Salaam Bombay, The Lunchbox, and Jalsaghar. Parched also earned €235,223 ($264,058) in Spain.
Critical Reception:
The film received critical acclaim. Parched, on Rotten Tomatoes, has a rating of 90% based on 21 reviews with an average rating of 7.4/10.
