At first glance, you might expect Call Me Bae to be India’s answer to Emily in Paris, but thankfully, it’s much more than that. Many viewers have been pleasantly surprised by how entertaining the show is, offering a compelling story instead of being another Indian remake of a foreign concept. While the show may not be entirely original, it certainly feels genuine, and its ability to poke fun at itself is what makes it work so well. The plot follows Bella Chowdhary, aka “Bae,” who finds herself kicked out by her husband after three years of a lonely marriage when she has an affair with her gym instructor. Very South Delhi, right? Stripped of her wealth, Bae soon realizes that her values are more valuable than her money, eventually landing a job as a journalist. From there, she uncovers a story that could shake the country, but will she have the courage to share it?

How Does Bae Expose Mukul?

In the show’s finale, Bae and her team are thrilled to see women across the country coming forward with stories accusing Mukul Sawla, a so-called feminist icon, of misconduct. As expected, Mukul denies everything and even tries to use the scandal for his political gain—at least until Bae and Tammarrah manage to pull off an undercover operation, gathering incriminating evidence from Satyajit’s computer. This data proves that Mukul is far from innocent. Meanwhile, Satyajit is preparing for the 100th episode of his hit show Confessionals and is desperate for a fresh idea. His girlfriend and producer, Harleen, suggests bringing Mukul and Bae on as guests for a live showdown.

Back at home, Bae’s group, along with the gym trainer she had the affair with, uncover that Mukul’s company is using free 5G SIM cards to gather women’s personal data. Mukul exploits this for his dirty deeds, and Satyajit for his sensational show. This inside scoop comes from a mysterious informant, “Centaurus.” Soon after, Bae is invited by Harleen to join the live show, and during a beachside run, she realizes she must do it for the women supporting her from all over the country—#behencode (sister code).

Dressed to impress in a bold red corset and black suit, Bae heads to the show. Satyajit tries to defend both himself and Mukul, starting by belittling Bae for her past mistakes. But Bae, stronger than he expects, turns the tables by owning up to her flaws and shifting the focus to the many women Mukul has harmed. She uses the evidence they secretly acquired to expose Mukul’s true nature, dismantling his reputation in minutes. As for Satyajit, he tries to distance himself from the controversy, but it’s too late—Harleen has left him, and he’s lost everything in his pursuit of sensationalism. In the end, Bae proves that the sister code is more important than any personal reputation, and even her estranged mother comes to accept her again.

Bae and Saira’s Bond

Despite their vastly different backgrounds, Bae and Saira share a common struggle: loneliness. Both women were neglected by those who were supposed to care for them, leading them to unhealthy coping mechanisms—Bae through shoplifting, Saira through gambling. However, by the end of the series, it seems their friendship gives them the support they need to break these habits. Once again, sisterhood saves the day. Bae’s mother also comes to realize that Bae, not Samar, is truly deserving of admiration.

A Possible Season 2?
In the season finale, Neel offers Bae a position as his special correspondent, and she eagerly accepts. Bae gets to host her own investigative show, aptly named Call Me Bae, and her first mission is to unmask the mysterious Centaurus. While nothing has been confirmed, the open ending suggests that there’s more to come in a potential season two. Additionally, Agastya, who had distanced himself after Bae’s affair became public, shows up in Mumbai with her ring in hand, hinting that he may have forgiven her. Will Bae rekindle things with Agastya, or will she move forward with Neel? We’ll have to wait and see.

Overall, Call Me Bae is a delightful and entertaining watch, perfect for unwinding after a long day. While the drama is intense, it’s balanced with plenty of humor, making it a fun and lighthearted series to binge with friends.
