Surbhi Puranik, better known as Surbhi, is a prominent Indian actress with notable roles in the Tamil and Telugu film industries. Born on June 5, she made her cinematic debut in the Tamil movie “Ivan Veramathiri” in 2013. Born in Delhi on June 5, Surbhi completed her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the College of Art, Delhi. To further her acting skills, she enrolled at Imago Acting School, where she received training under the guidance of Barry John and Manoj Bajpai. Early Success (2013-2018)
Surbhi began her acting career with the Tamil film “Ivan Veramathiri” in 2013, playing the role of a college student opposite Vikram Prabhu. Her performance was well-received, with “Rediff.com” describing her as a perfect fit for the role and “Hindustan Times” recognizing her potential. This role led to nominations for Best Female Debut at the SIIMA and Vijay Awards.
In 2014, she appeared in the successful Tamil film “Velaiyilla Pattathari” with Dhanush. The “Deccan Chronicle” noted her effective performance in her cameo role. Later that year, she also made a brief appearance in the film “Jeeva.”
Surbhi made her Telugu film debut with “Beeruva” in 2015, starring alongside Sundeep Kishan. While “The Times of India” appreciated her acting, they suggested she could have improved on some scenes.
The year 2016 was a busy one for Surbhi, as she appeared in four different films. She played a dog lover opposite Sharwanand in “Express Raja,” a film that became a commercial success. “The Hindu” acknowledged that despite her limited screen time, she made a strong impression. Following this, she starred with Jai in “Pugazh,” which had an average box office performance. In 2021, she appeared in two films. Her first release was “Sashi,” where she acted alongside Aadi. The “Times of India” remarked that while she looked great on screen, her expressions could have been more impactful. She later debuted in Kannada cinema with the film “Sakath,” playing an anchor opposite Ganesh. Her performance was praised as charming by “The Times of India.”
After a brief break, Surbhi made a comeback in the film “DD Returns,” where she played Sofia alongside Santhanam. The “Times of India” praised her performance, highlighting that she, along with the rest of the cast, delivered their roles perfectly.
