Vikas Divyakirti cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in the year 1996 with first attempt itself with an All-India Rank of 384. Vikas, thus, joined Central Secretariat Service as a section officer in Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Soon, however, he realized that teaching was his passion, and hence, took resignation from the job after one year.

He founded Drishti IAS in the year 1999, a coaching institute in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi, with an intention to assist the students visiting to take an option for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Brilliant teaching methodologies of his help in simplifying even the most intricate topics, which has earned him great popularity among students, and the institute of Drishti IAS came up as a most reliable coaching institute from then.
He got married to Dr. Taruna Verma whom he married on 26 May 1997 and he has a son named Satwik Divyakirti. His reach goes only further as his YouTube channel went active in November 2022 and garnered 3.8 million plus subscribers overnight. Along with this influence and reach, Vikas has been able to change the lives of the students from all over India. Vikas has also acted in the new release by Vidhu Vinod Chopra 12th Fail, which is a story of an aspirant candidate for UPSC. Vikas enriched the dialogues of the film so that it becomes comparable to aspiring civil servants.
Besides all these, there are numerous controversies with him, the most prominent of which is with Sita whom many also address as Sita Bai and one of the best figures of Hinduism which almost every person has condemned. There are also some issues connected with Drishti IAS, in which the basement of the institute was sealed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi after the tragedy involved the UPSC aspirants at another coaching center.
