Aamir Khan has been in discussions with producers Allu Aravind and Madhu Mantena regarding a sequel to the 2008 cult hit Ghajini. As previously reported, the producers pitched an idea to Aamir, and he requested them to return with a fully developed storyboard. Meanwhile, it has come to light that Allu Aravind is also considering making Ghajini 2 in Tamil, with Suriya reprising the lead role. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Suriya, the star of Kanguva, confirmed the sequel’s development.
Talking about Ghajini 2, Suriya remarked, “It’s interesting that you bring this up. After a long time, Allu Aravind approached me with the idea of a sequel, and I told him we can definitely think about it. Talks have started, and things are moving forward. Ghajini 2 might happen.” Additionally, Pinkvilla has learned from reliable sources that Allu Aravind and Madhu Mantena are planning to shoot Ghajini 2 simultaneously in both Hindi and Tamil.
According to a source, “With the rise of Pan India films, remakes with popular stars are becoming outdated. Both Aamir Khan and Suriya are enthusiastic about Ghajini 2 but want to avoid the ‘remake’ label. They expressed concerns that whichever version releases first could lose the novelty factor, and they shared these concerns with the producers. After hearing them out, Allu Aravind and Madhu Mantena proposed the solution of filming the Hindi and Tamil versions concurrently and releasing them on the same day.”
The source added that Aamir and Suriya are on board with the idea of a simultaneous release, but are waiting for completed scripts before committing fully. “A sequel to a landmark film like Ghajini comes with high expectations, as the original was a game-changer for both actors. Their priority is to ensure the sequel is authentic and not driven by financial motives. While they appreciate the concept, they are waiting for detailed narrations as the development progresses. Scriptwriting is currently underway, and a clearer picture of Ghajini 2 should release by mid-2025.”
The Drishyam franchise team is considering a similar approach, in which both the Hindi and Malayalam producers are aiming to shoot their versions simultaneously and releasing them on the same day to create a spoiler-free experience for viewers across different languages
