Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are not only Bollywood’s most cherished on-screen duo, but they also share a close friendship off-screen. At one point, Kajol responded to persistent rumors suggesting that Shah Rukh and her husband, actor Ajay Devgn, had a strained relationship, sharing an interesting story to set the record straight.
In a 2015 interview with ABP News during promotions for Dilwale, Kajol addressed the speculation. She clarified, “I want to clear this up. Just because they aren’t seen partying together, or haven’t worked together in films recently, and don’t often cross paths at events, doesn’t mean Shah Rukh and Ajay are enemies.”
Kajol also shared that she initially considered turning down Dilwale due to the challenge of watching a long street film with the children at home, while her husband’s filming was also due to start but Ajay encouraged her to do so to go ahead with the movie and use to adjust his schedule and work at home. “That just shows that the rumors are not true,” she added.
The alleged rift began with the box office clash between Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardar and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012. Later, Ajay clarified in a press conference that he and SRK have never had any personal quarrels and he and Kajol maintain their personal friendship.
Ajay also noted that Shah Rukh professionally reminded him he was also producing Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and thus their films’ rivalry was purely business-related. “He made no attempts to resolve the unfair situation they created. That’s why there’s no personal equation between SRK and me,” Ajay had said.
Notably, in later years, Shah Rukh and Ajay collaborated on a brand endorsement, marking a friendly moment between the two stars.
