There was a period when Sanath Jayasuriya was considered the greatest cricketer by the majority. He was not just a retired cricketer who represented Sri Lanka but even led the team. He was an orthodox left-arm spinner and a top-order batsman who represented the Sri Lankan cricket team from 1989 to 2011 and then retired for good. An ICC Cricketer of the Year in 1996, he was the most important player in guiding Sri Lanka to their first World Cup title.

Jayasuriya is currently involved in Sri Lankan politics and is also in the role of selecting players for Sri Lanka Cricket. He is even a renowned personality in Sri Lankan cricket because of his aggressive approach to the game and his vast contributions towards the game. His hard work took him to the limelight as a recognized person in and beyond Sri Lanka.

Sanath Jayasuriya’s Wife is whom?
Sanath Jayasuriya’s cricketing life has been as dramatic as his life away from cricket. His marriages and love life have been actual news-breakers. Sanath, born in Matara, married Air Lanka ground hostess Sumudu Karunanayake in 1998 but witnessed their marriage being dissolved the following year with a divorce.

Sanath Jayasuriya Named Sri Lanka’s Interim Head Coach
Aside from his personal life, Jayasuriya is still in the spotlight within the cricketing world. The former Sri Lankan captain has been appointed as the interim head coach of the Sri Lankan team. He will guide the team through a home one-day series against India and an away three-Test series in England, which will conclude in mid-September.

While he has never been a coach of a performing team, Jayasuriya was a cricket advisor and chief selector with Sri Lanka Cricket. He is being selected following Chris Silverwood’s resignation from the role after the T20 World Cup 2024. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board is eager to have a full-time coach, but may also consider a local coach for the role.

Jayasuriya’s match record is second to none, and his active involvement in the game ensures his contribution to Sri Lankan cricket remains unbroken.
