On the 13th of September, Nineteen Ninety-four saw the birth of a girl named Dharal Surelia in the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. She has come out in the open as an architect and designer-turned-woman of renown in India. For someone who learned to marry form with function, such has made a noteworthy name in India’s creative industry.

Education

Dharal deserves accolades in terms of merit for higher education. She joined CEPT University in Ahmedabad, wherein she pursued the dimensions of architecture in higher learning. From there, she travelled to the United States to attend the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), regarded as one of the toughest design schools. That was not the last of where she decided to study; she went to ETH Zurich, one of the greatest institutes in Switzerland, which specializes in science and technology. As one surmised, she is equally pursuing complementing her education in design with an education in business; thus, the pursuit of an undergraduate business qualification at Babson College in the USA.

Work

With such varied degrees in education, Dharal set up “Butter Concepts,” a multidisciplinary design practice, of which she was the founding director. Here, she and her team take their clients through architecture, interior design, and branding, all part of their service footprint that focuses on innovative solutions matching the vision of their clients. It marries the artistic sensibilities with practical design for making spaces beautiful as well as functional.
