Harmanpreet Kaur is a very dynamic and powerful female cricketer in India. Known for her fearless batting and greatleadership skills which she brings to the table, she has made a significant place for herself in international women’scricket. From a humble background in Punjab to captain the Indian women’s cricket team, Harmanpreet’s journey is very inspiring.

Early Life and Background

Harmanpreet Kaur was born on the 8th of March, 1989 in Moga, Punjab, India. From a middle-class Sikh background, her father Harmandar Singh Bhullar was a volleyball and basketball player and her mother Satwinder Kaur is a housewife. Harmanpreet showed an early affinity for cricket which she took up at a very young age also playing with the boys in her neighborhood.

Encouraged by her father, that young lady enrolled for the Gian Jyoti School Academy which at the time served as the training ground for the young players it was there where she got to train under coach Kamaldeesh Singh Sodhi. Although they did not have the best of facilities the girl’s will and dedication which soon set in showed that she was very much a talent in the women’s cricket field.

Cricket Career

In 2009 at the Women’s T20 World Cup against Pakistan Harmanpreet made her international debut. What had been the role of a utility player for her early international years grew to be that of a key player thanks to her aggressive batting and versatile play.

In 2017 during the Women’s World Cup semi-final against Australia which was her big break-out performance, she scored an unbeaten 171 in just 115 balls. That performance gave her global recognition and also did a great deal to change the perception of women’s cricket in India. Since then she has been a key player in both ODI and T20I formats.

In 2018 that Indian woman hit a century in T20 Internationals’ record and she also was named the captain of the Indian T20 team which she led in 2022 at the time of Mithali Raj’s step down.
