Boby Chemmanur, born in Thrissur, Kerala in India. As little as a little kid, his family had no secrets from him about what they ran out of the jewellery business, and so from a very young age, he had an entrepreneurship that he developed early. Boby is a member of a traditional Christian family that had a very strong stand on values like service and self-discipline, and he was brought up in that environment.

Standing up at 5’9’’ (175 cm), he is known for his unique style, which he always puts on point from head to toe. His long hair and that great smile of his are what mark him out. Boby is married to Smitha Chemmanur, and they are parents to Anna, who also went into the modelling and brand endorsement world.

Education & Family Background

Boby got his school education in Thrissur and went on to higher studies before he fully devoted himself to growing the family business. His father, Devassykutty, and mother, Sicily, inculcated in him the values of hard work, honesty and generosity. Also in the business group is his brother, Bose Chemmanur, whom they have built up together. Although Boby did not go the traditional MBA route, his practical experience and intuitive feel for the market became his real school.

Business Career & Achievements

After taking charge of the family business, Chemmanur Jewellers, which he rebranded as Chemmanur International Group, he expanded the portfolio to over 50 jewellery stores across India and the world. Also under his watch, the group grew into hospitality, real estate, finance and oxygen wellness segments. What made his companies’ success was their innovative ideas and customer focus.

One of the most significant decisions that he made was the 2012 bringing in of football star Diego Maradona to India at the time of the store launch, which created an international furore. Also at that time, we saw the introduction of the first ever mobile jewellery retail store in the country, and also which brought out consumer-friendly solutions like the zero break-even exchange of gold and gold savings plans, which in turn increased our customer base in different regions.
