Early Life & Background
Loni Coombs was born in 1965 to a family in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and at a young age, the family moved to Southern California. Into a large family, which was also very diverse, she was put up for adoption, which also included five other adopted siblings. Up in that varied home setting, which included many cultures from the start, it shaped her out to have a very inclusive world view and also developed in her a great respect for different backgrounds and cultures.

At a very young age of 16, Loni enrolled in college. By age 19, she had earned a degree in psychology from Brigham Young University as well as minors in philosophy and music. Loni also went on to Pepperdine University School of Law, which she graduated from, and thus set the stage for a very dynamic legal career.
Loni has tied the knot twice. Of her first union, which was a marriage, came son Trevor. In 2005, she got married to Steve Carlston, at which time she also became a stepmother to his kids. Presently, she is a grandmother and is living in Southern California with her family.

Loni started out as a criminal prosecutor at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which is where she did very well with tough and high-value felony cases, including murder, gang-related crimes and sexual assault. She was put in charge at the Malibu office, which had its fair share of high-profile celebrity cases. Also within specialised units, which included Crimes Against Peace Officers and the Hate Crimes Unit, she did investigations, managed teams, and worked with law enforcement agencies.

In the year 2006, Loni made the shift from the courtroom to the broadcast world. She began out as a legal analyst, commentator and host, which took her to various TV networks and news programs. What made her stand out was her ability to break down complex legal issues, which in turn made her a trusted source for her viewers.
She got into producing and hosting crime docuseries and also did play-by-play of several live news events. Her true crime work did that which was to put forward forgotten cases and give a stage to victims’ voices.
