Switch your mobile service provider without having to change your number. When you move from Jio to Airtel with Mobile Number Portability (MNP), there is no reason you will have to change your number. In this guide, we can provide you with a detailed overview of the whole process step by step to help you get through it easily.

1. Determine Eligibility.

Before starting, check that you meet the basic requirements:

  • Your Jio account should have been active for 90 days.
  • No dues on your Jio account.
  • Do not have any active contracts with Jio.

Meeting these marks will see your porting request turned away.

2. Create Your Unique Porting Code (UPC).

To begin the process, text out a message from your Jio number in the following format:

    • PORT <your 10 digit mobile number>
    • Send this to 1900.
    • You will receive a Unique Porting Code (UPC) via SMS. This code is generally valid for 4 days, so you need to use it within this time frame

    3. Choose what type of Airtel service you want.

      • Determine if you want a prepaid or postpaid Airtel plan.
      • For postpaid, we have you covered in terms of online plans as well as in our Airtel stores.
      • During the process, you may choose a recharge plan.

      4. Submit your transfer request.

You have 2 options for your request:

        Online or App-Based

        • Visit out at Airtel’s site or use the Airtel Thanks app.
        • Choose your preferred prepaid or postpaid plan.
        • Enter your UPC and upload identity and address proofs (e.g. Aadhaar).
        • An Airtel representative will come to your place for the SIM card delivery and KYC completion.

        In-Store

        • Visit the nearest Airtel store.
        • Enter your UPC, along with the identity documents.
        • The store representative will guide you through the whole process.

        5. Delivery and Implementation.

After your porting request is submitted: After the porting request has been submitted:

          • Airtel will provide you with a new SIM.
          • Port times are of the order 48 hours for customers in the same state, and up to 4 days for those doing inter-state porting.
          • During that period, your Jio SIM will be active until the final switch, which usually takes place very late at night and is of short duration.

          6. Enable your Airtel SIM.

            7. Final words for a smooth port

Have your documentation in order prior to generating the UPC, which may otherwise cause a delay.

Generate your UPC at any time before you proceed; it has a short valid period.

We do not charge for porting, just pick out the plan that best suits your needs.
