Introduction
As one of the leading telecom companies in India, Vodafone Idea puts forth a feature that allows you to personalise the tone that callers hear while they are on hold before your phone is answered. We also bring to you a very easy-to-use guide to get you started with setting up your own Caller Tune on VI.
1. Using the VI Application.
- Download and register: Install the VI mobile app on your Android or iOS device. Use your VI number and the OTP you receive to sign in.
- Browse and select: Go to the “Caller Tune” section. We have a large choice of songs, melodies and messages.
- Activate: Choose the song you prefer and tap on “Set as Caller Tune. We will deduct a small fee of around ₹15 from your balance, which will confirm the action.
- Notes: The service is a subscription-based model, which usually starts at around ₹49 for monthly plans. Also, at times, we see free setup for some tracks or free trial periods.
2. Via Call (IVR)
- Dial the service number: From within your VI SIM, dial 56789.
- Follow the voice menu: Listen in on options to pick out your favourite Caller Tune.
- Confirm activation: Once you pick the option, the system goes through the setup, which in most cases is of the same charge as the app.

3. Via USSD.
- Dial the code: Dial *567# on your mobile.
- Chat-style menu: A USSD interface that will come up for you to search and choose a Caller Tune.
- Activate: Confirm your input and stand by for the system to go through the tune on your number.
4. By Text Message
- Compose a message: Send ACT CT to 56789 (in which is the unique tune identifier).
- Receive confirmation: VI will inform you via SMS that your Caller Tune is active. Also, you may be charged as per the plan.
5. Fees and Charges.
VI states it may charge somewhere near 15 Rupees for each Caller Tune you activate, and may also require a monthly subscription that typically starts at about 49 Rupees. Notably, there is an opportunity for promotional discounts/benefits on caller tunes (free activation or trial on certain tracks) on a regular basis.

6. Tips and FAQ’s.
- Multiple Caller Tunes: Setting separate tones for separate groups of callers is usually not an option; instead, we have a single tone that plays for all incoming calls.
- Deactivation: If you would like to turn off Caller Tune, the app, IVR, USSD, or SMS options are present; via SMS, you usually send a code such as STOP CT to end the service.
- Plan Benefits: Some postpaid and campus plans will have free Caller Tunes for a limited time. Check in the VI app or with customer care for what is included.
Conclusion
Setting up a Caller Tune on VI is a simple and flexible process, which we have a variety of options for via the VI app, a quick call in, through USSD, or SMS. If you are looking to put your personality into your incoming calls or just want to enjoy a favourite tune, we have you covered, and it is very easy to do at a time that is convenient for you. Also, at times, we may offer it up for free.
