Getting into use of your new BSNL SIM is easier than you think. For prepaid or postpaid options, we have made activation of the SIM a smooth process, which in turn gives you access to talk, text and mobile internet without issues.
1. Plug in and turn on.
Start out by putting your BSNL SIM into the phone’s SIM slot. If your device has support for dual SIMs, it is recommended to use the primary slot, which in turn will see better network performance. After inserting the power into the device, give the phone a few moments to connect to the network.
2. Start Tele-Verification

Upon which BSNL network goes live, open your dialer and dial 1507. This is BSNL’s tele-verification number, at which an automated system will talk you through identity verification and also give you a choice of languages. Follow the prompts till the end. Post successful verification, the network usually activates in between 30 minutes and 2 hours. In case of network activation beyond this time frame, you can get in touch by dialling 1500, or if you are on another network, dial 1800-345-1500.
3. Enable Mobile Internet Services.
To get your internet services working:
- Send the message Start to 1925 from your BSNL line. You will get a confirmation SMS that says Mobile data service has been activated.
- BSNL will, for the most part, set your internet settings.
- If you do not have these settings, then you may set up the APN like so:
For Android Devices:
Go to Settings – Network Internet – Mobile Network – Access Point Names.
- Tap the ‘+’ or Add icon
- Enter: Type
- Name: BSNL
- APN: BSLN net
- Save and select this APN
For iPhone (iOS):
Go to Settings and then to Mobile and Mobile Data Options and into Mobile Network.
Fill in
- APN: BSNL net
- Save your changes and then turn on mobile data.
Once set up your BSNL SIM, it will be fully functional, which includes calling, messaging and internet access.
4. Keep your SIM active

To prevent service disruption:
- Use my SIM often with calls, sending messages, or browsing.
- Recharge before your validity period expires.
- BSNL provides a 7-day Grace Period, post which your service is still active, you may continue to receive calls, and your account will not be affected.
- After this, you go into Grace Period 2 (GP2), which may last up to 165 days. In GP2, outgoing services are disabled, and your balance may be lost.
- Maintain service continuity by recharging at these intervals.
5. Reviving a deactivated SIM.
If you have your SIM which has been turned off (usually due to inactivity), this is what you do:.
- Visit your nearby BSNL Customer Care Centre.
- Bring your SIM card, your phone number that goes with it, and a valid ID.
- Complete your KYC and pay any due reactivation fees.
- Activations are within a 24 to 48-hour frame. After a certain time has passed, reboot your phone and wait for word that service is back.
Final Tips
- Properly insert the SIM and wait for the network signal to come on before.
- Be prepared, after tele-verification, activation may take some time.
- Make sure your device has the right data settings for a smooth online experience.
- Regular use and timely recharges prevent your SIM from being deactivated.
