Known for its Annual Bandra Fair, the church draws in millions of devotees of all faiths who go in to seek out Mother Mary. It’s a semi-circular arch and tall grandeur that looks out over the Arabian Sea, and which also serves as a picture-perfect spiritual getaway.

With its large nave and in-depth carvings, this church is a standout in North India.

  1. Christ Church in Shimla.

Dominant on the Ridge, Christ Church is the 2nd oldest in Northern India. Its yellow neo-Gothic frontage is an iconic feature of Shimla. The church is home to five stained glass windows which depict Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, and Patience that, in the mountain light, appear to glow ethereally.

  1. Virgin Conception Cathedral (Pondicherry).

In the vein of French colonial design, this cathedral in Pondicherry is a study in grace. It’s façade, which is a pure white and blue feature, paired with Doric columns and a central gable. The interior is also very beautiful with its arched ceilings and peaceful atmosphere, which personifies the quiet town.

  1. St. Philomena’s in Mysore.

St. Philomena’s is a very tall church in Asia, which is an outstanding example of the Neo-Gothic style to which the Cologne Cathedral in Germany gave inspiration. It has twin spires which reach up 175 feet into the air, and from which it is visible for miles. Below the main altar in the crypt is a statue of St. Philomena, which adds a layer of mystery and reverence to the site.

  1. Cathedral Church of Reconciliation (New Delhi).

Tucked in at the base of the Parliament House, this church is a gem of the Lutyens’ Delhi period. Instead of the typical Gothic spires you see elsewhere, it has smooth curved arches and domes, which are a take on the Palladian style. Its cool interiors present a quiet sanctuary in the heart of the busy capital.
