Ram Vilas Paswan was one of the most lasting political leaders in the history of India, whose personal life was as complicated and interesting as his political activity. His political achievements are primary sources of information, but his personal life, including two marriages, was a personal affair until later on in his career.

Childhood and First Marriage.
It was a very early marriage in the 1960s of Paswan, who was married off at a young age to Rajkumari Devi in some regions of India. Out of this marriage, two daughters (Usha and Asha) were born. Their married life was in its initial stages, and Paswan was also rising in politics, and he was always absent from home. Although a great political figure, Rajkumari preferred to remain outside the fray of political life, and ultimately, they went back to their village ancestral home with their daughters.

Public Disclosure and Divorce.
The private life of Paswan was the first marriage that was a secret for decades. He did not publicly disclose his marital status till 2014, when his Lok Sabha election nomination papers were challenged in court over omitting the details of his marital status. He confirmed that he had divorced Rajkumari Devi in 1981. This confession exposed his life as an individual.

Romance with Reena Sharma
At the beginning of the 1980s, Paswan met Reena Sharma (nee Avinash Kaur), a young air hostess. The relationship turned to love, and they got married in 1983 when his divorce had been legalized. Paswan also had two other children with Reena, daughter Nisha and son Chirag Paswa,n who later became a future political figure in his own right.

Balancing Two Families
Even though his two families continued to be separate, Paswan was still in touch with all his children. This did not stop tensions after his death, such as reportedly contentious arguments over who should bury and who should not, and differing degrees of public attention to the children of his marriages.
