In the field of Indian competitive exams, few figures stand out as much as Awadh Ojha Sir. Known for his engaging stories and in-depth study of history, which he imparts to his students, he has become a light at the end of the tunnel for millions of UPSC aspirants. But the road to becoming India’s preeminent educator was not without its setbacks. It is a tale of great sacrifice, early failures and an unshakeable spirit of resilience.
Roots and Early Struggles
Born on July 3, 1984, to Avadh Pratap Ojha in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, he was brought up in a middle-class setting. His father, Shrimata Prasad Ojha, was a postmaster, and at great sacrifice, his mother became an advocate. The family’s commitment to education was great; to support his wife’s legal studies, Shrimata Prasad sold off five acres of their land to become an IAS officer.
The Turning Point: Transition from Failure.
To feed his son’s IAS aspirations, Awadh’s father sold off the last five acres of their land to pay for his stay in Delhi for coaching. For seven months, the son was dedicated to intensive preparation, which saw him through many stages of the UPSC exam. But in the end, he fell short at the Main stage.
This blow was a huge shock. With the family farm out of the question and the main dream broken, Awadh found himself at a crossroads. It was at this time of great uncertainty that a friend put to him the idea of taking up a teaching job at a coaching institute in Allahabad.

A Rough Start in Teaching
Awadh’s transition from student to teacher was not at all smooth. On his first day out, which went very badly, he had no experience and put on a very formal air; in fact, almost all the students left his class. At one point, it could have put an end to his career as a teacher; instead, it turned out to be the best lesson for him. He learned that teaching is not just about presenting facts but also about connecting with the students’ emotions. He spent the better part of the next few years perfecting his style, which included putting forth historical info in a humorous way and also including life philosophy.
Rising to National Fame

By 2020, as the world went into lockdown due to the pandemic, Awadh Ojha shifted his classes to YouTube. He had a unique approach to teaching history, which he presented as a living story as opposed to a dry subject, which went viral. Also, he founded IQRA IAS, which he made into a large presence in Pune and across digital spaces. What he did with simplifying complex geopolitical issues and giving out motivational “dosage” has got him millions of followers.
Recent Ventures: School to Politics.
As of 2026, Awadh Ojha Sir is still a dominant player in the educational field. But in late 2024, his path took a different direction when he joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Also, he has said that although teaching is his calling, he got into politics as a means to bring about system-wide changes to India’s education sector.
Today, we see in his life with wife Manjari Ojha and their three daughters, which is proof that a single failure doesn’t define a person. From a naughty boy in Gonda to a national mentor, the “Unsung Story” of Awadh Ojha is a live example that when one door closes, the mind’s resilience can open a hundred more.
