Early Life and Education

Born in India, Apsara had a very tough upbringing, which included issues related to her transition, which at the time were not at all supportive in her development as a person. At the same time, Apsara went through great emotional trauma and also became very much isolated from family and friends; yet through it all, she held onto her passion for education and personal growth.
She went off to get her advanced degrees in journalism and communication, which in turn served as the foundation for her successful career. Her passion for telling stories and social issues drew her to the media field. Education played a large role in building up her confidence and in my fight against prejudice.
Career in Journalism
Apsara Reddy started out as a journalist. She reported for many media outlets, which in turn brought out her communication skills and sharp opinions. Also of note in her work were social issues, gender equality, and human rights.
As a reporter, she brought to the fore issues of the trans community in India, which had been ignored. Also known for her advocacy of an inclusive society and for breaking down barriers of discrimination that the trans community faced. That same boldness that defined her as a person also made her a very present voice in the media.
Also, she expanded into motivational speaking and social activism in addition to journalism. At public forums and events, which she regularly attended, she put forth the issue of respect for diversity and support of equal rights for all.
Entry Into Politics

For Apsara Reddy, a turning point was her foray into politics. She thought that social change had to come via policymaking and public leadership. In India, her role in political life was marked as a milestone for the transgender community.
